The CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry is the latest nationally accredited unit for individuals who want to gain the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others.

Perfect for learners who want to join the construction industry in any of the following streams:

• Bricklaying / blocklaying
• carpentry
• concreting
• formwork / falsework
• demolition
• steelfixing

Training is delivered via Face-to-Face Learning.

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in 1 day.

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 6 hours of study depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

This course is designed to develop your expertise in construction. Among other things, you will learn to:

• identify construction hazards and risk control measures
• identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
• identify incident and emergency response procedures

All learners will be assessed through:

• Observation during on-the-job or role play/stimulation
• Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview

There are no formal academic requirements needed for this unit of competency. However, applicants must be 18 years or over.

Numeracy and Literacy

Language, literacy, and numeracy requirements are needed to undertake this course. This is assessed through Tradecraft Academy’s pre-enrolment LLN assessment*. Specifically, students would need the ability to:

• Use numeracy skills to locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs.
• Communicate effectively by asking questions to clarify instructions and telling another person about a construction problem or hazard.
• Read and follow simple pictorial safety instructions and simple safety instructions written in English.*Students who fail the LL&N assessment may still be enrolled to the course if endorsed by the trainer/assessor, and corresponding additional support strategies are in place

Additional requirements for International Students: 

• Students on student visa enrolling to this course must also meet the following requirements:
  
  • Must be actively enrolled to a principal course through a registered CRICOS provider
  • Must be on a student visa that allows enrolment to a secondary short course (students will be advised to consult with immigrations prior to enrolment)
  • Must meet the minimum Language skills requirements as outlined in Migration (IMMI 18/015: English Language Tests and Evidence Exemptions for Subclass 500 (Student) Visa) Instrument 2018, unless where exceptions apply:

Tradecraft Academy has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy, to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist students toprogress faster through a unit of competency or allow the student fullcredit.

However, to obtain awhite card, a person must successfully complete this training course. Therefore, RPL is not offered for this course.
